Ellenton, Florida

Located on the banks of the Manatee River, the little community of Ellenton is home to a little over 3,100 people. Ellenton is just minutes away from Bradenton and Sarasota, with the beach communities of Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach and Longboat Key just a short drive away. Over a fifth of the area within Ellenton designated boundaries is water, which means that waterfront properties are everywhere. Ellenton central location makes it ideal for those who want to be close to the amenities offered by medium sized cities like Sarasota and Bradenton, while maintaining the quiet, calm atmosphere of a small town.

The oldest structure in Ellenton is the Gamble Plantation, which was built by Major Robert Gamble between 1845 and 1850. The antebellum mansion that was originally a sugar plantation worked by slaves fell into disrepair after the Civil War. Major George Patten and his wife, Mary, purchased the property in 1870 and named the area Ellenton after his daughter Ellen. In 1881, the United States government designated Ellenton as an official post office site.

Ellenton’s neighboring areas are home to more attractions. Once you go on a short trip to Sarasota, you will find the Ringling Museum, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, and the Mote Marine Laboratory. A little bit further south is the Myakka River State Park. Bradenton offers the Bishop Planetarium. And of course, there are more than thirty private and public golf courses located in Manatee County, with many more in surrounding counties.
